The Howard government spent $84 million last year providing every
household in Australia with an "opt-in" filtering service. 150,000
people "opted-in" and only 20% of those people were still using the
software in February this year

ml)

Australian taxpayers thus spent $2800 for each household protected by
this hugely successful initiative.

Indeed... interesting to talk about, concerning to see implemented.

I'd still prefer it to be along the lines of an opt-in / value-added
service that the ISPs can provide, rather than an opt-out /
"dirty-old-man" / "please-spy-on-me-asio" facility.

But my views don't necessarily represent those of my employer on the
matter :-)

Dan

THE federal Government's plan to have internet service providers filter
pornography and other internet content deemed inappropriate for children
is going full-steam ahead.
