You'd think at the prices they're flogging broadband that dialup would 
be history, but still dialup still has a significant market share in the US.

You are right, they have set unrealistic expectations on the true cost 
of broadband. Having said that, even here in Australia you have some 
players doing the same (in an effort to gain market share).
