So your 11k link could quite likely end up
being 12 or 13 (I had one which was listed in all Vocus' documentation
and testing reports as 37k's - could not, for the life of me, get a
10Gb-ER tranceiver working on the link with an acceptable loss - had
to go to a ZR to bring the link up).

I'd recommend you stick ER tranceivers in this link (good for up to
40k's) - and probably go 1550nm rather than 1310. FS has heaps of
them, and they're not anywhere near as expensive as genuine Cisco
ones. You can try a pair of LR's for shits and giggles (they're only
about $40 each), but I'd almost bet they won't work unless you're very
luck with the number of joints in the link and the insertion loss
levels.

You *might* need a 3dB attenuator on each end - but they'll sell you
those too - and if your receive power isn't above the limit, you can
get away with removing it.

One thing to note is that if you use a non-genuine transceiver and
have to log a TAC case, Cisco will immediately tell you so sod off
when you log it because it's not "supported" - so it comestimes pays
to keep a genuine one on hand to swap into the switch in case you have
an issue - but if it's only one link, it's debatable if it's worth
doing that - keep a couple of spare FS ones in case they go bad.

D

P.S. I am not affiliated in any way with fs.com - just a satisified customer.

On Tue, 17 Aug 2021 at 10:59, Alex Voigt <a href="mailto:<alex@advtech.com.au>" target="_blank"><alex@advtech.com.au> wrote:
>
> Greetings.
>
>
>
> Looking for recommendations for a SFP type Transceiver for 11km dark fibre Vocus service.
>
>
>
> Anyone has any recommendations for what they have used successfully.
>
>
>
> Alex Voigt
>
>
>
> ADV Technical Consulting
>
> 3 Furniss Road
>
> Landsdale W.A. 6065
>
> Tel: 08 9302 4866
>
> Fax: 08 9302 4844
>
> Mob: 0419 010 191
>
>
>
>
>
> Please make a note to use the following email addresses to ensure a prompt response
>
> For Support - support@advtech.com.au & Admin/Accounts - info@advtech.com.au
>
>
>
>
>
> Disclaimer
>
> The information contained in this communication from the sender is confidential.
