Turned out his Telstra router was supplying a valid prefix to<br>
autoconfigure IPv6 addresses in, but it was not supplying IPv4<br>
addresses via DHCP. Reset the router and it all came good.<br>

This is the first time I've seen this in the wild where it was not a<br>
misconfiguration (though I'm the first to admit that "the wild" is more<br>
of an inoffensive thicket in my case). Is it more common than I think?<br>
