can represent your interests in a combined submissions that
carries weight from the number of people/organisations/members
behind it. It can be the ITPA, or Internet Australia (we have a
dedicated ISP SIG for industry things, which did make an effective
difference with data retention), or another group, don't care -
but currently, unless you're a member of CommsAlliance, or you
write your own submissions, your voice is unheard.

In this case, the bill is likely to be referred to the PJCIS
(Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security),
which also covered the metadata issue a few years back. Making
even a short general submission now to say 'I'm interested' will
put your organisation on record, and you may be given an
invitation to speak to the Committee and explain how the laws will
affect you personally or your organisation. Its not scary. Or you
can join a group that will provide a front-man to do that, with
your input into the points they argue on your behalf.

A submission doesn't have to be long - a page or two can cover the
main points.
