I’m with one of the newer players in the market, on a 100/40 plan. I’m consistently getting 85/35 during the day, and in the evenings it’s more variable, sometimes down to 40/15 but usually around 75/30. My best speedtest.net test has been 96/42 (not sure of that upload figure to be honest). Only a few providers offer a static IP on an HFC connection, so you’d need to be careful of that. My new provider has said they’re going to be offering statics once they build out their network, so hopefully that will come. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'>Meanwhile I’ve found that there are virtual shared hosting options for mail servers and the like. This allows my lab to look like it’s coming from a static IP and the VPN latency doesn’t affect things too much.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'>2c<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'>max<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='display:none;mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='display:none;mso-fareast-language:EN-US'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><div style='border:none;border-top:solid #B5C4DF 1.0pt;padding:3.0pt 0cm 0cm 0cm'><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'>From: </span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'>AusNOG <ausnog-bounces@lists.ausnog.net> on behalf of Robert Hudson <hudrob@gmail.com><br><b>Date: </b>Tuesday, 12 September 2017 at 3:20 pm<br><b>To: </b>Burt Mascareigne <Burt@stormnetwork.com.au><br><b>Cc: </b>ausnog <ausnog@lists.ausnog.net><br><b>Subject: </b>Re: [AusNOG] HFC<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal>In theory, 100Mbps/40Mbps service (and even 1Gbps/400Mbps) services are possible over the nbn HFC service. There's a lot more to a service than the last mile. You will get "best efforts" SLA for support of a consumer-grade service, and likely won't get a static IP. Upgrading to business-grade will resolve some of the issues - but then, when the HFC cable itself is down (let's say a garbage truck cuts it, and resolution is 8 hours), what do you do for redundancy (and you're not thinking redundancy as a service consumer here, but rather as a service provider for your email)?<o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal>Personally, I don't think there's actually a valid reason to run a mail server in an office these days except under extreme edge-cases - hosted or cloud mail (or full collaboration, such as Exchange Online via O365) services are so cheap on a monthly basis that the real cost of procuring, building, running and maintaining a reliable service in an office is just insane these days.<o:p></o:p></p></div></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><div><p class=MsoNormal>On 12 September 2017 at 11:31, Burt Mascareigne <<a href="mailto:Burt@stormnetwork.com.au" target="_blank">Burt@stormnetwork.com.au</a>> wrote:<o:p></o:p></p><blockquote style='border:none;border-left:solid #CCCCCC 1.0pt;padding:0cm 0cm 0cm 6.0pt;margin-left:4.8pt;margin-right:0cm'><div><div><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU>Hi All<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU>We have a client getting:<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU>nbn™ Hybrid Fibre Coaxial<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span lang=EN-AU>Does anyone have real world exp for this?
