<div dir="ltr">Solomon Islands is part of the Commonwealth, like Australia. Pacific islands have historically been strategic locations.<div><br></div><div>Military have always been keen on having their comms run through controlled territories. </div><div><br></div><div>WW1 telegraphs to Australia went London => Capetown => Cocos Islands => Freemantle => Adelaide => Sydney so that they did not have to traverse an enemy controlled land.
