sync rate, attainable rate, and a lot of other stats including estimated cable length, CPE make/model (if it’s registered), MAC address of modem, noise margins, attenuation, and graphs of uptime over the past 1 and 14 days. But of course this all relies on
there being an existing service, which doesn’t help if you’re trying to work out the maximum practical service to order.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

speed. It is usually a big range, eg 30-50 down and 10-20 up, but it can give some idea of what to expect. Also keep in mind that internal cabling at the premises can make a significant difference.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Your ADSL sync won't really help give you any idea as to your likely VDSL sync, as ADSL is you->pillar->exchange (or you->pillar->rim, or in some cases you->pillar->rim->exchange), where as VDSL will be you->pillar->node. If you have
access to an SQ tool which provides cabling detail, you can punch your phone number in and pull back your cabling records, to see how far from the pillar you are. The node is usually < 100m from the pillar. Once you have the distance, and the number of joints,
you have a pretty good idea of your sync speed :)<o:p></o:p></p>

And to avoid a hypothetical scenario where I get stuck on a contract paying for a 50Mbps service, that will only ever allow me to see 30Mbps - I need to connect a modem that shows the maximum attainable rate, to see what I can actually achieve.<br>

Unfortunately it doesn't appear my new learning project provides that information (unless a VDSL connection shows detail than a ADSL connection does) - so I'll have to borrow something to examine that further.<br>
