</span><p dir="ltr">If the email was promoting IAA membership, with a bullet point as generic as "* special offers from industry suppliers" then I think it would have been OK.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Where this crossed the line was it was an advertisement for a single business for members of a particular group of whom some listen here.</p>
<p dir="ltr">If you've been around the Internet long enough, you can also smell astroturfing-like advertising such as posting subtle marketing to a much larger audience than appropriate. </p>
<p dir="ltr">That can do more damage to the brand than intended. I've bought stuff from the vendor mentioned in the past, I might not in the future, just because of this single "innocent" email.</p><div class="HOEnZb"><div class="h5">
