<div dir="ltr">Darren,<div><br></div><div>I have lurked these data retention threads for a while now, and I am not sure what significant opportunity any ISP had to do something about this. It seem to me that everything about the proposal was changing and too vague until it was too late to do anything effective about it. Really, even now it is vague or classified information.</div><div><br></div><div>To send an informative letter to your customers telling them you are about to increase their fees is much more likely to do the very thing you don't want them to do - migrate to your opposition, is it not? It is a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face. </div><div><br></div><div>What if the laws never passed? Users are likely to think your fees are still going up.</div><div>What if the proposition changes and it is revealed the Government is going to flip the bill for all costs? Now your clients think you are double dipping.</div><div>What if the law changes in some other way to what your letter indicated? Now your clients are ill-informed, which makes them think their ISP is ill informed.</div><div>Many may never even read past the "We are going to have to charge you more" paragraph. Many may never even read the mail.</div><div><br></div><div>None of these things are positive outcomes, and I wonder at how many of your clients would react the way you would intend to something like this, and actually be vocal about something many of them probably do not understand, even after your letter goes out.</div><div><br></div><div>It is just my personal opinion, but I think the ISP's are not to blame based on the information I have seen...</div><div><br></div><div>- Greg</div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On 25 March 2015 at 14:39, <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:ausnog@worley.org.au" target="_blank">ausnog@worley.org.au</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div lang="EN-AU" link="blue" vlink="purple"><div><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1f497d">Sadly, one vote they won’t care to much about, but ALL of the ISP subscriber bases around the countryside just may have been a different story…<u></u><u></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1f497d">Hands up those ISP’s that had already sent an informative email to their customers regarding upcoming changes to their expected privacy and possible increases to their fees, or had relevant links| information on their homepage | invoices | billing portals?<u></u><u></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1f497d">Sadly, the horse has well and truly bolted.<u></u><u></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1f497d">ISP apathy.
