<br></div>Comms Day covered the IPA submission today:<br>The Institute of Public Affairs, one of the oldest think-tanks in the country, has warned that the proposed mandatory data retention regime could lead to further consolidation of the telco sector. In a submission to the current Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security inquiry, it suggested that the scheme constitutes a substantial regulatory burden that is slanted in favour of the larger players.<br><br>“This cost will have significant effects on the shape of the telecommunications industry,” the IPA submission noted. “The cost of regulatory compliance is not evenly distributed among firms of all sizes. It will be relatively more expensive for low-budget telecommunications providers – who do not, and have no business desire to store masses of data currently – to implement the government’s full data retention scheme.”<br><div><div>etc<br></div><div><br><br><div><div>best regards<br><br><br>Narelle<br clear="all"></div><div><br>-- <br><div class="gmail_signature"><br><br>Narelle<br><a href="mailto:narellec@gmail.com" target="_blank">narellec@gmail.com</a></div>
