<div class="moz-cite-prefix">VMWare teaming/bonding (depending on
which OS world you tend to live in) definitely does do
active-active.<br>
<br>
In fact, VMWare always does active-active even if there's no
actual link aggregation going on. VMWare's bog-standard vSwitch
uses split horizon routing by default, with traffic routed out on
active links based on specified criteria. <br>
<br>
LACP isn't supported without either the Nexus 1000v vSwitch or the
ESXi 5.5 Distributed vSwitch, but static link aggregation works
all the way back to ESXi 3.5 without an issue.<br>

<div dir="ltr">I think the important thing you need to
consider when having these discussions is the end
result, what exactly are you looking for when you're
deciding what tech to use?
<div><br>
</div>
<div>If you're looking for short-life VMs to run tests
and then have them quickly deleted when their lifespan
is over? Maybe you should consider container based
virtualisation (openvz or docker esq). </div>
<div>Are you after complete orchestration with things
like HA or FT out of the box? Then maybe something
like VMWare's vcenter that manages your storage in
addition to scheduling is what you're after. </div>
<div>
Is performance important? Then consider paravirtual
guests over a fully emulated guest. (down the Xen or
KVM path)</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>There's plenty of orchestration pieces out there
too and they can vary quite dramatically in cost, A
cost which you might quickly sink into man hours if
you don't think about management as well as
functionality. </div>

<div>There's no right or wrong answer, I've used them
all in different situations.</div>
