Megaport - who?<br>

</div>
<div>I'm curious how the datacenters feel about
potentially losing all this cross connect
revenue. It has to be a pretty fair chunk of
their profit. We all know that it doesn't cost
$225/month (>$8k over 3 years) for 50m of fibre
to sit in a tray, but we know that that 10Kva of
redundant, protected power and cooling is worth
every cent we pay for it.<br>
<br>
I think Macca raised a reasonable point...
everything on 1 physical port is crazy. But
everyone else has made the obvious conclusion that
Megaport[S] open up some fantastic options for us
all. How exactly does the service work if we
take 2 ports? Are they aggregated or
active/standby ? Is it the same cost to take up
the 2nd port?<br>

<div dir="ltr">OK
all,
<div><br>
</div>
<div>The time
is arriving
for DC-Virtual
Cross-Connects
to become a
useful part of
our ISP lives.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Whether
it is
Megaport, or
other fibre
providers who
choose to
replicate the
model, the
Megaport one
is what we've
got at the
moment, and we
might as well
start using
it.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I've been
having a few
discussions
with people
about buying
connectivity
(not just
transit) over
the Megaport
VxC fabric,
but I am not
sure if anyone
out there has
productised
the selling of
products over
the VxC
fabric.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I know
people like
Amazon AWS
will now allow
you to connect
to them over
Megaport with
a Direct
Connect... and
that is great.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>What I am
looking for
are some
transit
providers who
are on, or
getting on
Megaport, who
will sell
either Transit
or Wholesale
services over
the fabric.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I was at
an event
recently, when
Jason Ashton
said that he
was willing to
do BigAir
wholesale
interconnects
over Megaport
- and that is
an awesome
start. What I
would love to
see is people
like AAPT,
iSeek, M2 and
others be able
to sell more
wholesale
tails over
this fabric.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Transit
should be an
easy one. for
$200
intrastate
between any
connected
DC's, with
capacity up to
the connection
of your pipe
(10Gb or
100Gb), I see
people selling
transit as a
no-brainer.</div>
<div><br>
If you are
doing this and
want to
announce it
here,
awesome... or
if you don't
want to
announce yet,
but happy to
let me know -
I will keep it
quiet until
you are ready
to announce
it.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Also...
other IXs...
Pipe,
Australia IX,
Equinix
Peering - have
you thought of
connecting to
Megaport for
the VxC, so
people can
actually use
the Megaport
fabric to get
onto your IX
as well?<br
