The AWS Sydney AZ was probably the worst kept secret in that space
over the past year or so, glad to see it finally up and running. For
local "cloud" providers running less mature / more expensive
platforms it's basically the equivalent of Walmart moving in. In my
opinion it should mean a big shakeup for those players and I'll be
very interested to see how the market reacts.

It's also good to see they're offering VPC there immediately. We've
been running VPC instances for a couple of clients for a while now
and slowly migrating them closer as the AZ's open up. Having access
to Sydney is a big deal for services like this and basically wipes
the "buy a bunch of tin and stick it in a cabinet somewhere" model
off the map for many customers.
Dear AWS Customer,

We are excited to announce the immediate availability of our
new Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region.

Starting today, customers can run their applications and
workloads in the new Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region to reduce
latency to end-users based in Australia and New Zealand while
avoiding the up-front expenses, long-term commitments, and
scaling challenges associated with maintaining and operating
their own infrastructure. Sydney joins Singapore and Tokyo as
the third Region in Asia Pacific and as the ninth Region
worldwide.
