Sure, but the other value proposition for peering is also performance. It's efficient routing and uncongested connectivity to a whole mess of ASs. When EA was hosting at Webcentral I used to get 11Mb/s downloads to my desk.

believe they are two financially competitive right now. Im sure im
not allowed to publicly say how much we pay for the pipe IX but
needles to say it's only a small amount per meg cheaper then what
we pay for transit from others and traffic seems to be falling on
our pipe peer. So lets just say the target is a moving one at the
moment. Now if Telstra/Optus were to join an IX that would be a
different story but we all know that's not going to happen.

It would be nice if an IX was available without to many ongoing
costs (it's a layer 2 switch port after all) however with
interconnect pricing (global switch meet me etc) all this adds
up.

There seems to be more value in pooling smaller ISP's together to
go to transit providers as a group. We have had some success
negotiating some better prices in that situation.
As to the fight between PIPE/VOCUS It sounds like interesting

Ummm, sorry, why should they?
The commercial agreement between

If you have a commercial agreement
