Couldn't we just have the libraries that display the address use ASCII instead of hex? That way a 64 bit interface address could represent an arbitrary 8 char string.
eg 2001:db9:4865:6c6c:6f20:576f:726c:6421=> 2001:db9:"Hello World!"
