Imagine if the government said that cocaine increased productivity, and mandated that everyone had access to as much cocaine as they could handle.

This is akin to what's happening now.

Internet must be good, it allows communication, EVERYONE needs HEAPS and HEAPS!

What it WILL do is produce ever-spiralling circles of constant communication, inducing information overload.

No one will ever go out side.

No one will bother to learn anything, GOOGlE will show them in 3D holographics how its done.

Could it be that too much Internet will bring our destruction? Information overload causing societal implosion?

Imagine the day when the government says 'Households must limit the amount of consumption of Information!'

Much like water restrictions today, to ensure that there is enough to go around.

Could it be too much of a good thing?

</back in side box>

Still, I want faster Internets, but could you imagine the day where the Gov't LIMITS how much we can consume instead of increasing it?

(Oh wait, the filter).

Nevermind, this post has just crossed itself out on both sides and is now null and void equalling a total sum of zero.(Or -ve $48 Bil)
Tim,
The demand for faster services exists. The constant denial that it doesn't and the demand isn't going to grow is tiring as you know it's not true.

/me hopes you're going to be vocal about the government spending same kinds of dollars on a few ships, submarines and fighter planes over the next decade. Certainly if we can't afford NBN then we can't afford to spend the same money on defence as well.

Still I see no alternate plan other than "hopefully technology will save us from ourselves".
