Not aimed at Matthew, but I had written a long post outlining my thoughts on this (as it has occurred a few times, with some offenders worse than others) but I think the following puts it more succinctly. Where's it from? I'll give you a hint, check the first email you received this month =].

This is NOT a forum for journalists to pick up leads, sales people to
sell things, or end-users to pester their ISP. Such behaviour will not
be tolerated (see "Moderation" below).

<facetious>...but since everyone else is breaking the rules, I'd like to point out that my DSL has dropouts and that you should all buy my stuff because it's good. If anyone would like to write an article about either of those things, they're more than welcome to contact me.</facetious>
Hi all,

Whilst I appreciate and understand the few comments, remarks and concerns received, I've replied to each response individually, off-list.

Just for some clarification so we're all on the same page:

- Whilst I initially hesitated to send this to the list, I emailed the content to AusNOG for approval/rejection which was approved.

- It was never my intention to "spam" the list and I apologise in advance if the email offended anyone in anyway.

- It was suggested that we supply a link in the email rather than attaching the PDF or placing the entire PR into a single email - the end result clearly didn't work either.

I'd like to recommend that all further comments, remarks and concerns regarding this please be emailed directly to me, off-list.

Many thanks.

Regards,
Matthew
Matthew,

Please take some time to consider the list charter, which includes the statement:

"This is NOT a forum for journalists to pick up leads, sales people to sell things, or end-users to pester their ISP".

AusNOG is a valuable tool for network professionals like myself and others to discuss technical problems and non-technical problems that can impact the various industries that we all work in.

I can certainly appreciate the eagerness to announce your brand and positive news about it. But if an early resistance to this kind of blatant self-promotion isn't found, then we risk having the list we all love so much slowly turn into yet another marketing communications platform. So I ask, respectfully (as a list member, not a moderator), that you refrain from making these sorts of announcements on list.

Mike

P.S. I am fully aware of the irony of broadcasting an unsolicited opinion in objection to an unsolicited opinion. Perhaps I'm just as guilty :)

We have just partnered with Sanity Technology to release some awesome news.
