Dear AusNOG

Just a quick update, thank you to everyone so far who has helped make this Group Buy idea turn into reality, it’s great to see network providers of Australia band together.

We have official quotes which meet the price target of $1.50 USD per mbit from two wholesaler providers. We will be getting an MOU signed over the next few days which will guarantee the service being delivered for all parties involved, provided that we can meet the minimum commitments.

In the interest of transparency, everyone who has expressed interest in buying capacity has been allocated a number so that we can keep parties anonymous. So far we have a total of 16 parties with a total commitment of 25 gbit. Everyone who registered should have received thier number via email so they can identify themselves online.

A list of all parties and their commitments, as well as the FAQ can be found here - https://www.micron21.com/groupbuy

We also received concerns from people asking whether the service will be oversold and contended. We can say with confidence that this is absolutely not the case. If we collectively as the AusNOG community require 25 gbit of bandwidth, then 25 gbit of bandwidth will be ordered from the wholesaler and a copy of the agreement showing total capacity being purchased will be shared with all participants.

The next step is that we will select a wholesaler and sign the MOU, which will be distributed online providing further transparency and reassurance of the group buy, followed by sending out contracts to be signed to all parties who have expressed interest in capacity. As party members sign contracts the group buy web page will be updated, so everyone knows the total committed bandwidth going to be purchased in this group buy.

Please note, like any Group buy, you need to be part of the group buy from the start and you cannot join the group buy after the cut-off date. The cut-off date associated with this group buy will be 30 days after we sign the MOU.

If anyone has any questions or needs any more information please just ask

Kindest Regards

James Braunegg

Dear AusNOG

Just a quick update to everyone, I am getting serious traction on this group buy collectively we now have 20G of capacity spoken for across 15 AusNOG members.

The current stats are as follows

Singapore to Sydney = 7G
Singapore to Melbourne = 8G
Singapore to Perth = 5G

I am putting together a FAQ which I will put online later this afternoon, however I am super excited about helping the community.

If any IT news Journalist are reading this (IT News, Computer World, etc ) and would like to write a article on the power of group buying and saving bandwidth costs for smaller network operators please contact me!

Looking forward to hearing from everyone, and let the capacity keep increasing.

Kindest Regards

Dear Mark / AusNOG

No doubt a group buy on capacity is upsetting a few people…

As it stands now collectively across AusNOG in a few hours 15G of capacity has been spoken for, at $1.50 USD per mbit which is $22,500.00 USD MMR or $810,000.00 USD over 3 years, which is huge !

I am sure we can hit 30G of capacity and lower the $1.50 USD price per mbit even further for everyone !

This is how its currently looking … (Need to get Perth up to 5G to make it viable )

Sydney = 7G
Melbourne = 6G
Perth = 2G

Kindest Regards

I have had lots of enquires and even some capacity wholesales complaining that the price of $1.50 USD is too low….

That is a very informative signal you can use to judge the trustworthiness of your capacity wholesaler.
