Sorry to thread crap, but I couldn't help finding it slightly ironic wondering what would happen if the hackers in charge would have needed to pull some remotely hacker-y software for the exploit...

It thus established a new record. After few minutes the attack was mitigated by Akamai, who was called in by GitHub.

The attackers used misconfigured Memcached servers.
