The straight-line distance from where I thought the DSLAM was is a
shade over 5km, which squares pretty well with what Internode said the
wired distance was.

The previous speed I would say WAS consistent with that distance, maybe
with a bit of squinting and grunting. But the current speed is more
what I'd expect at not much more than a kilometre from the DSLAM. That
would be consistent with the downstream attenuation value I am seeing
of about 18dB.

So Damian's theory is looking good - that Telstra (yes, it's an
EasyReach Internode account running on Telstra kit) has added something
to the mix that is much closer to me.

I'll go looking for a new cabinet of some description :-)
