Bevan is right about the deal being about removing the optus hfc asset from the marketplace, as I am sure someone would have been willing to fix it up to compete with the NBN.

To provide some insight into the issue the NBN would have faced, take a look at www.fttbwholesale.com.au and check the published CVC costs...
