Im not to sure on if they are paying more but look at it this way
Power company has a call centre of sorts, they have a billing mechanism to bill the customer and they have credit control, so whats adding another product in the mix, it means that if they were making $20 a month off the power and can make an extra $10 a month off the internet then why not, as majority of costs are "sunk"  yes they have to upskill some staff and do ISP things, but they open their market up to more customers and more potential renevue / profit

I personally know of one ISP who makes more money now selling power, internet is just an additional line item.

  That's an interesting business model. Does it actually make sense for the consumer? Is the price of power competitive or does the consumer just end up overspending on power instead?
