[AusNOG] Internet Association of Australia

Good morning David,

Firstly please allow for me to clarify the intent of my post:
While you are correct, we do have an email list of members - this email list does not necessarily include the technical people who are often the ones in an organisation charged with procurement of equipment that is likely available from the partner who has provided this offer to our members. We do not maintain a complete list of "technically interested people" - AusNOG does.

Secondly allow me to apologise.
Not for the "noise" of my email - but for all the subsequent posts. It appears I triggered a reflection-amplification attack on the list.

It strikes me as amazing how many emails hit this list looking for a sales rep, or looking for prices on whatever service - everyone is looking for a bargain, and these skate through.
Skeeve is spot on regarding how unfriendly this response is to the community - thank you for your support Skeeve.
IAA is not for profit and we have coordinated with one of our suppliers a very special offer for our members - there are some major bargains to be had through this offer.

Fortunately, yesterday I received far more responses directly to me form members who are not subscribed to our list than there have been complaints.
While it may be your view David, and that of the AusNOG board - I would suggest for you to consider it is not the view of your members that my email was at all inappropriate.

Good morning Tom,

While we openly support other associations within our industry, the email below is a bit rich. Surely you have a mailing list of the IAA membership through which you could promote an IAA member-only promotion. There are thousands of people on the AusNOG list, most of whom would not be IAA members, so your email is unsolicited and irrelevant to them (i.e. SPAM).

If you guys wish to cross-promote something like an event that would be of interest to the AusNOG list membership then we'd be happy to support that. But please do not send emails like the one below to this list.

Thanks

David - on behalf of the AusNOG board

Hi AusNOG-ers!

Recently as many of you will know, WAIA (The Western Australian Internet Association) undertook a name change to better represent our focus and what we do for the industry, renaming to "Internet Association of Australia" (or IAA).

I wanted to reach out to our members here on AusNOG and let you know 4Cabling.com.au<http://4Cabling.com.au> are running a special for all of our members - a significant discount off everything ordered online. If you didn't get our mail out with your code (i.e. it went to your accounts department) please feel free to reach out to me and I will get your code. The offer is for all our members.
