I thought iiNet was the one that took over AAPT's residential customers?

Sadly I would have to cite the TPG - AAPT takeover.
AAPT was a profitable brand with excellent support and local staffing, but TPG wanted to make it significantly more profitable by destroying the customer service.

I fear the same for iiNet :(

I haven't seen anywhere saying that TPG will change the business at all.
Why can't they keep iiNet as a premium brand with onshore support?
Then they'd probably still be able to pass on cost savings to iiNet customers due to economy of scale.

Although TPG's support must have improved at some point as when I got NBN a month ago they were excellent, ringing me proactively an hour after an appointment was missed and checking up afterwards as well.
Sure its offshore but I could actually understand them which is quite nice.

When does the ACCC step in and consider TPG amassing a monopoly? Are we far off?

Also - for a lot of providers this 'could' be good news. TPG are quickly having the reputation of diminishing the brands they purchase through cost cutting measures. ISP's like iiNet were prided on local support etc, this could see a mass of users soon looking for a new ISP with local support, if TPG follow their trends.

For those of you who have been living under a rock (like me) you may have missed the news... TPG has acquired iiNet for 1.4 billion.

Fun times for the industry with one less big player...
