[AusNOG] Multiport 95th Calculations

Yes, so it might then make more sense to average the two perhaps, rather than just straight adding them together eg. (450 + 100) /2 = 275 "average 95th" over both links (for the example figures given) ?
I would tend to think option A is the only real way to go about this. What you are trying to sell is 500mbps commit with burst to 2Gbps possible.
Think about how you would do this if the two ports instead of being at different locations were a LAG at the same location ?

regards,Tony.

Option B seems like it could be a bit of a nasty surprise.  If i’m reading correctly, wouldn’t that mean that if you’re doing 95th of 450Mbps on Port A, and 95th of 100Mbps on Port B, that you’d be hit with 550Mbps as your overall even if these bandwidth peaks occurred at different times (ie. you get billed burst despite never hitting your committed rate with your peak uitlisastion)

Cant think of a way to abuse Option A… Its well understood how long you can burst on a circuit and not have to pay extra (~2160 minutes)…and the providers take (should)  this into account in setting their prices.
