[AusNOG] IPv6

The ISP will wear that pain, because the first place people call when they have an Internet problem is their ISP. IOW, as an ISP, if you recklessly deploy IPv6 (as with any other customer facing service or feature) you'll pay the price in helpdesk calls.

It is not turned on by default on most customer CPE’s because not every network or device supports it and the manufacturer doesn’t want returned equipment because ‘it doesn’t work’ when they bought it at Harvey Norman because the ISP hasn’t deployed it correctly.    Then you move to the customer that would potentially want to create a ‘port forward’ to a device using an IPv6 address which obviously isn’t going to work so it is easier for them to not use it.    Less than 10% of our customers utilise our IPv6 deployment even though we have it turned on by default and manage the stack at the same priority of IPv4.    I welcome the day it is on by default but it’s the humans that is the problem. You could say that about IT in general though…
