[AusNOG] Telstra 4G Static IP's

‎This shouldn't happen -- on Verizon Wireless LTE, you retain your IPv6 address on a 4G to 3G handover. There are (or were at launch, I've not looked to see if it's since been fixed) restrictions on when a session first starts on 3G it won't get IPv6 until it later moves to LTE for the first time.

As for why operators aren't launching IPv6 on LTE? Probably the usual mix of don't care/don't see value/why add more risk or complexity to an already complex project/"my vendor doesn't support it". The last one is slightly amusing given VzW buys from nearly every vendor, and they certainly require IPv6 support.

AJ, mailing from a VzW mobile device that currently has IPv6 on both the LTE and WiFi interfaces.

By memory it was because of roaming issues if you move from 4g to 3g suddenly your ipv6 goes missing and all your connections drop.

I don't know why they don't. On an LTE network it should be as simple as IPv4.

I understand that there is short demand for IP addresses and providing them on every mobile would very quickly exhaust the pool, however please Telstra make an effort to put IPv6 onto 4G.....

Who cares about a static IP, how about a decent usage plan, YAY!!!! I can get 30mbit down 10mbit but can't actually DO anything with it.

I'd just about give my right "your know what" for a decent usage plan at a decent price.

I'd happily pay $150 a month for 50-60GB (I'd LOVE a 120GB) plan let along $150 only giving me 25GB :(, takes me back to the good'ole 56k modem plans.

Cheers
