[AusNOG] Looks like the NBN will be the TBN!

Apparently areas that are FTTN will have 50Mbps…. But I don’t believe it. Trials have shown 106Mbps… but that was probably only at the house next door to the node!

What I want to know, is what will be the modem/NTU device required with an FTTN connection? Will we being using ADSL/VDSL modems that the end users have to supply (as it currently is with ADSL) or will NBNCo provide a copper based NTU of some sort?

One of the things I loved about the FTTH design was that the NTD that was deployed by NBNCo allowed 4 separate data connections, and 2 separate voice connections, all on the one box, and was managed by NBNCo.

So if someone was really greedy, they could get 4 x 100Mbps connections from 4 different providers!

And then we didn’t have to deal with the crappy ADSL CPE issues from end users with dodgy devices like we see these days.

What if we live in that rollout area, and already have FTTN? is that it? 1.5 mbps for life?
