Networking (in the inter-personal sense, not the technical sense) is
actually just as much a part of this business as knowing how to subnet.

Likewise, crying publicly on mailing lists _isn't_ on-topic; if you had an
issue with this you should know from the list charter to take it up with
the mods and let them decide.

Quite seriously - you should try attending some of the events people put on
from time to time. They're good fun, you get an opportunity to have a bit
of fun, meet your industry peers and chat informally about problems and
opportunities.
