[AusNOG] Thoughts about IP Transit

Chris,

Absolutely. One of the greatest benefits of Virtual X-Connect Fabrics like
Megaport is the On Demand nature of the infrastructure.

All it will take to shake up the market is someone willing to offer very
creative options - including as you suggested, on demand, by the hour or
day transit capacity... which I think is an excellent idea and would love
to see people offering this sort of product.

The problem with that is the same as the Volume business back in the day...
they would sell by the volume, but access ports were normally high... but
when there was a massive transit demand, the over subscription would blow
out the network.

So, depending on the suppliers pipe sizes, and how much they sell, and if
they carefully control their exposure, then certainly it is a viable
product.
