Hi Dylan,

It *shouldn't*, but in rare cases, it can. There have been versions of IOS with known crashes of the running supervisor crashing when a 2nd sup has been installed - I've seen it happen once. I'd schedule the install out of hours.

The usual caveat applies with cards being installed incorrectly, too quickly / slowly.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Currently it has a single Sup720 and I have spare lying around that I would like to install just wanting to know whether the introduction of a 2nd would cause a reload or any disruption to traffic etc.

Hi Dylan,

Not sure what you mean 'normal switch operation'? It's more the opposite. Have a supervisor fail, and the warm spare, should it be configured that way, will kick in. With little if any traffic dropped.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone with experience with running Cisco 6500s with redundant supervisors could tell me if introducing a 2nd supervisor will disrupt normal switch operation?

Thanks

Dylan.
