The advice I have had from Cisco is that the N9k is designed for application centric stuff, for core datacentre gear they are still recommending the N7k, or more specifically the new 7700's.

I think Cisco wants it to be 9k now.  But my understanding is that the Trident-based linecards also have 512k TCAM slots, so don't bother buying cheap old cards on eBay, n'kay?

(that understanding could very well be flawed, I've not used ASR9K hardware that old, I'm relaying what I've been told by people who have)
