[AusNOG] International traffic speeds

Dear Andrew

I would recommend using iperf server / client setup.

Testing international bandwidth is tricky when using TCP traffic as it doesn't really paint a correct picture.....due to TCP Windowing, what you want to do is a UDP test.

I'm happy to setup a iperf server both locally and internationally if you want to give it a hammer, you can dial the speed up and down stress testing your network to see the available bandwidth.

If you have BGP control you could more specifically route say a /24 in via one provider test and then route it in via another provider and test again...

Let me know if you would like any help

Kindest Regards

Subject: [AusNOG] International traffic speeds

Hi All,

Looking for a convincing way to get some concept of the "real" international speeds we are getting on our network that doesn't involve transit provider FUD.

Does anyone have any good suggestions of good ways to test such things in ways that have reliable speed and coverage? (Particularly interested in testing PIPE and Vocus in case anyone was wondering...)

Thanks,

Andrew
