Usually the troubleshooting is pretty simple, because the failure has
been caused by the $3 power supply letting down the reliability reputation
of the $300 media converter.

(and yes, I have seen the exact same PSU used by a reputable media
converter manufacturer being offered for sale at DealExtreme for less
than five bucks)
