This is very interesting to watch across the ditch, Certainly reinforces
the argument for having IX's operated by neutral entities. At least in
the issue of Vocus being removed from the PIPE IX

Optus and Telstra are clearly competitors too... so are Nextgen and a
pile of others.... but you don't see Pipe playing games with them -
because only they would lose out.

I don't know the reasons why Pipe chose this path yet, but I'd like
to... The community has been seriously inconvenienced by this bullshit.

Any player (not just Pipe... AAPT went through this) who plays with the
industry like this will find themselves in serious issues as providers
will just abandon them in droves. AAPT is only just clawing back some
of their wholesale business are being stupid to deal with for a long
time.

Pipe is an awesome asset, I just hope it is treated well, but in the end
it is David Teoh's toy to destroy if he likes.

Why are you surprised? I think it is more surprising that Pipe
accommodated (in a variety of ways) Vocus for as long as they did, since
they're clearly competitors. Pipe (or any commercial company) have no
obligation to help out their competitors, unless it is mandated by the
government, or there is a mutual benefit.

This is probably also a good thing for Vocus, as it will cause them to
reduce their dependency on somebody who considers them to be a threat.

Pipe IXes may be good places to peer, but if they become less so, other
parties will likely step in to take their place.
