G’day James,

There are some licensing issues around Windows 7, your best bet is for a version of Windows Server and just use the admin login on it : which comes with it.
(You get 2 simultaneous admin logins included). For any more users you can add extra users etc and set them up as proper RDS / Remote Desktop Users.

The big thing here is, Windows Server 2008 R2 can be made to run like Windows 7, but Windows 7 licensing is a whole different kettle of fish and, well, we don’t offer it because it’s a licensing minefield in a hosted scenario. It’s much easier to run Windows Server ☺. I’m not sure who else offers Windows 7 itself.

Any decent Windows server 2008 VPS / VM Should do the trick.

Cheers,
Sean.

Subject: [AusNOG] Single Windoze virtual desktop

Hi Noggers,

I use a Mac daily as my desktop and have been "clean" of Windoze for several years. However a couple of apps I need to run are Win only.

I'm looking for a hosted Win7 virtual desktop (hosted in Australia). I know I can run Parallels or VMware on my my Mac etc. but my preference is for something hosted out of a data centre for these particular apps.

Anyone know of any reputable Australian hosted virtual desktops providers who are willing to sell just a single desktop instance?

-James
