The Mikrotik 450 and 750 come with a licence that has more than enough 
grunt for what I'm trying to do currently (I think), but yes I see your 
point.

The 450 gives you the option of internal and external case or no case, 
though at $35NZD just for a bit of plastic that I get for free when I 
buy a tub if ice cream, I see your point.

My local supplier is a bit cheaper than the prices on that site.  They 
look very much 'full retail', however if you look though that site for 
the 750 rather than 750G it's only $80?  So $30 more that the $50 budget 
you were thinking.

I looked at a bunch of the consumer stuff and decided that it just 
didn't have the support and information that I wanted.

Having said this, finding local support for the Mtk stuff isn't that 
easy either.  I made a reference to WP before, which clearly has a great 
number of people following it with knowledge of the product range, but 
don't seem very forth coming.  Make of that what you will.

Where exactly one goes for some discussion, in our time zone, around the 
concepts you're talking, who knows.  I fully expect a flame of 'not NOG 
discussion thanks' to break out here any time :)

I follow the NANOG a bit as well, which does often cover such topics and 
seems less of a NOG and more of a WP most days.
