Indeed.  Why not just remember one short, simple line of perl instead of a complex v6 address:

perl -ne 'my $line=$_;print join(":",(split(/:/,$line))[0..3]),":\"",join("",map({map({chr(hex(substr($_,0,2))).chr(hex(substr($_,2,2)))} sprintf("%04s",$_))} (split(/:/,$line))[4..7])),"\"\n";'
