Ouch, yeah.

My memory's a bit hazy but I seem to recall a server vendor shipping
remote access/lights out management cards which presented a network
interface to the host OS using a 1.x address by default.

Could've been Dell (DRAC) but I'm not positive, and admittedly it was
a while ago.

Anyway, it's going to be fun troubleshooting new and exciting "network
problems" that turn out to be caused by poorly configured end nodes.
Then again, probably not much different to today ;-)
