Data usage for voice isn't heavy, there isn't a tonne of overhead, and last figures I saw was similar/slightly higher than making a skype call. You can get a little voice latency though, sometimes noticeable, usually not.

No one supports femtocells they don't sell you and you can't just randomly grab one. The Optus trial is pay per month, I believe.
