[AusNOG] [off-topic] MS Surface

All about beer? ah well I guess that leaves me out of the equation since I don't drink beer.
if I ever get within playing distance of one I might see if it recognises Passiona, or Coke :)

In the mean time I'm still wondering if these things are worth their $21,000 price tag...

I saw one in a pub in Hawaii, if you put down a glass of Jack Daniels in a JD glass, circles would appear around it and give you the history of Jack Daniels.

If you put down a Budweiser it would do the same, so they must have been able to recognise the profile of the bottom of a particular types of beer.

Didn't work on 'Fosters' though so go figure.

Ahh yes, it's all about the beer.

Sean.

Sort of.

The fact that reading the input is done with cameras is very cool,
especially when you look at what raw data can be read with them.
There's a heap of potential for them over and above a giant ipad insofar
as that visibility goes, Eg being able to read credit card details by
putting your card face down, object detection, etc. Spend a few minutes
playing with the development console and you can see there's plenty of
potential. It's a great piece of hardware, just that there's no useful
application for it, and thus no reason to use it.

We used it as a giant google earth interface to show off our fibre
coverage maps.
