[AusNOG] AAB Statement

You have to be kidding. Anyone who's seen the actual document will be NDA'd up the wazzoo.

What is the source of your rumour? Any evidence? Are you kidding about a right of first refusal? That would stupid, if the asset was worth anything.

The level of betrayal of the principle that led to the NBN and Labor's position on Telstra would seem to preclude what you're describing. Also I'm not sure I agree with you about the negativity of Government ownership, but that's not core to your point.

I don't know what's worse:

- Giving Telstra $11B when the implementation study said we should build without them
- or the industry rumour the Government's "historic" deal with Telstra also gives Telstra last right of refusal to buy NBN Co. should the Government ever decide to sell.

I sure hope that's not true. Can anyone from NBN Co., Telstra or the Government confirm that there is not a clause in the agreement that gives Telstra any form of first/last right over NBN Co. or its customers?

It now appears possible that in the year 2020 Australia will be in the unique position in any (that I know of) developed country in the western world where we will have only one fixed line infrastructure owner nationally. What's even worse it's entirely likely that it can only be owned by the Government or Telstra. Talk about back to the future.
