Subject: [arin-announce] ARIN Joins the ITU

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency
of the United Nations that focuses on information and communication
technology issues. ARIN is primarily interested in two of the ITU's
three Sectors: ITU-T, which develops standards focused on information
and communications technologies, and ITU-D, which helps spread
equitable, sustainable, and affordable access to information and
communication technologies in developing countries.

ARIN has joined the ITU to assist on matters related to the Internet,
particularly issues pertaining to IP addressing. By providing
experienced technical expertise in this field to the ITU, ARIN furthers
its educational mission and offers valuable insight into the success
that the Internet has achieved through community-based address policy
development.

Many ITU activities are closed to nonmembers, so it is imperative that
ARIN become an accredited member in order to fully participate and
provide much-needed technical guidance on address management issues
facing the ITU, the ARIN community, and the world at large.

This is a chance to work with the ITU to educate its community on the
nature of Internet address and routing architecture and to represent the
interests of the ARIN community on a global scale. ARIN's ITU membership
will not affect ARIN's own policy development process, nor will it
affect how ARIN interacts with its own membership.

Please e-mail info at arin.net with any questions or concerns.

Regards,

John Curran
President and CEO
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN)
