[AusNOG] Network Management and Tools

For a simple "setup, ping a host and get an email or sms when it's 
offline" I can't recommend The Dude highly enough.
Free system, allows custom tools and SNMP monitoring / reporting (it has 
a number of predefined values to poll however setting up your own is 
relatively simple)

Allows setup of remote agents to do the monitoring too.

The biggest/only major flaw is that it doesn't have a linux version just 
yet.
