Hi all,

Interesting initiative on cyber security from the IPv6 Forum. FYI and also
soliciting appropriately qualified participants.

Contact details are in the email. Please pass onto anyone else you think
this may be relevant for.

The IPv6 Forum Kicks Off a Cyber Security Task
Force

Create a Worldwide Secure IPv6 Network

San Jose, USA / Luxembourg, December 16, 2010 - The IPv6 Forum has launched
a Cyber Security Task Force in order to accelerate the deployment of IPv6 to
mitigate cyber-attacks.

With the growing rate of cyber-attacks on government and commercial
networks, policy makers are looking for a cost effective strategy to enable
trusted communications. IPv6 has built-in IP security (IPSec) which enables
all traffic to be encrypted without the need for special hardware.
Subsequently IPv6 enables the creation of large-scale encrypted networks
which are very resilient to cyber-attacks. Unfortunately most network
professionals are unaware of the integrated encryption and authentication
features of IPv6.

The IPv6 Forum’s Cyber Security Task Force will be studying on how to
mitigate cyber-attacks thru the deployment of Internet scale VPN
architectures. The group is now seeking individuals to join the steering
committee. Individuals wishing to join should possess strong expertise in
encryption, tunneling, hash algorithms, key management as well as possess
experience in running very large networks. Individuals should be available
to participate in a monthly conference call to discuss cyber threats and
mitigation strategies. Additionally the group will also develop a set of
recommendations for a scalable key management and efficient block ciphers to
secure large public networks. A summary of the group’s findings will be
published in a white paper in the latter half of 2011.

“Making the security world aware of IPv6 encryption and authentication
capabilities is essential.” states Latif Ladid, President, IPv6 Forum,
Senior Researcher at University of Luxembourg, Security and Trust (SnT)
Center. Emeritus Trustee, Internet Society (ISOC)

"IPv6 overlays (on IPv4) offers an inexpensive solution to cyber security
through the creation of Internet scale VPNs” states Junaid islam, President
and CTO, Vidder.

"IPsec testing suite was released by the IPv6 ready logo program, this
initiative will give the IPsec program a good space for interop testing"
states Yanick Pouffary, IPv6 Forum (Ready & Enabled) Logo programs
chairperson, IPv6 Forum Fellow & NAv6TF Technology Director.

The initial Chair of the working group will be Junaid Islam, CTO of Vidder,
who will be responsible consolidating input from steering committee members
and drafting the paper. The group will operate on a purely volunteer basis
and no funds will be available to participants. However all participants
will be appropriately credited for their contributions. IPR generated by
the group will be public domain and submitted to standard bodies to
accelerate the adoption of large scale VPN architectures.

The IPv6 Forum has released the IPv6 Security (IPsec) Ready Logo Program
back in Sep 2010 to accelerate adoption and integration of IPsec and IPv6
technology solutions worldwide, see the IPsec program on the IPv6 ready logo
program ( <http://www.ipv6ready.org> www.ipv6ready.org )

Individuals interested in volunteering for the Steering Committee should
contact Junaid Islam at IPv6Forum at vidder.com or can register on the mailing
list: IPv6_Cyber_Security at ipv6forum.com

 About the IPv6 Forum

The IPv6 Forum is a world-wide consortium of leading vendors, Internet
service vendors, National research & Education Networks (NRENs) and
international ISPs, with a clear mission to promote IPv6 by improving market
and user awareness, creating a quality and secure Next

Generation Internet and allowing world-wide equitable access to knowledge
and technology. The key focus of the IPv6 Forum today is to provide
technical guidance for the deployment of interoperability thru its IPv6
