You might be surprised.  The RAAF folks found that ingesting Iraqi  
desert
air into their turbines cleaned accumulated scaling off the insides of
the engines, producing slightly better fuel economy and slightly lower
maintenance costs.

Purely temporary, of course: over time the scaling ran out and the sand
started abrading the metal instead, with completely predicable results.
