[AusNOG] Sat link in Indonesia

Bill,
The Ipstar solution was designed for local country applications due to a
number of reasons, but fundamentally the design was driven by regulation.
Unless Ipstar promoted this isolation, they would not have been able to get
licenses to operate in a number of countries in the region.

Note that I understand that the limitation is based on the current business
model, and that the technology can be reconfigured if the business case can
justify the investment. I do have an opportunity I need to explore with the
Ipstar sales team that is going to test this case.

But the solution is relatively simple depending on what you want. We are
running a Hughes HN Hub on different satellites, with one beam on GE23 that
simultaneously covers both the Au and NZ markets. It really depends on what
you want to achieve?

  Joe.

I've had this conversation with IPStar before regarding having a unit in
Australia and have it using the NZ gateway. I was told the system isn't
designed to do that. They can only deliver to the local gateway.

If you have any success with this, please let me know who you spoke to.

Cheers,

Bill

The problems tend to be local Indonesian regulations rather than being an
Australian provider. And from memory it is reasonably tightly regulated
within Indonesia though there are mechanisms that can be explored to manage
the risk.

Coverage is available if required - contact me directly if you need further
information. But I will warn you that it does cost more than your typical
terrestrial services.

  Joe.

I wouldn't mind knowing this as well, I have a couple of clients there
that have issues with my delivery methods due to their second rate
Internet
