I am preparing to teach a new course TELE9752 Network Operations and
Control at the University of New South Wales starting in July, and am
seeking opinions as to what should (not) be included in such a course?

The official course description is at
http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/postgraduate/courses/2008/TELE9752.html
. It is part of a Master of Engineering in Telecommunications by
coursework program; students tend to have more of an EE background than
CS, rarely have experience operating networks and there are limited
facilities (and student skills) for practical work. Traditionally such
courses have taught topics such as SNMP, RMON, event correlation
techniques, provisioning for fault tolerance, etc.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
